This is the first dish made by Manzi since we have been married and trust me it was yumm...whoever knows him would always say that he cooks well. But i wasn't sure until he made this simple yet very tasty dish :)
Cabbage - ½ - chopped finely or grated.
Onion – 1 medium size - chopped
Green chillies- 3-4
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Curry Leaves -5-6
Garlic cloves -5 – chopped
Split green gram (Moong dal) – 2 tsp – (soaked for 15 mins)
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Grated Coconut -1/2 cup
Oil- 3 tsp
Salt
Water as needed
Coriander leaves for garnishing.
Method
Firstly take a vessel and heat 1 cup of water. To this add cabbage, salt, turmeric pwd and one slit green chilli. Cook till the cabbage is soft.
Meanwhile, Take another pan and heat oil. Add mustard seeds. Once it starts spluttering, add curry leaves and garlic. Saute it for a few secs. Add onion and chopped green chillies. Saute it till onions turn golden brown. Add moong dal and fry it for 1-2 mins.
Add cooked cabbage along with the water in the
vessel. Mix well.Cook on high flame so that the extra water evaporates You can leave some water if you wish to have a curry like consistency. Add grated coconut and Cook for another 2 mins. Turn off the
heat. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
