This spicy and tangy chutney goes very well with dosas.

Ingredients

For making chutney

Onion – 1 medium – roughly chopped
Tomato – 2 large – roughly chopped
Dried red chillies – 3
Garlic – 2-3 cloves
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Salt
Oil – 1 tbsp

For tempering

Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Method

Take a pan and heat oil. Add onion, garlic, dry red chillies, turmeric powder and salt. Saute till the onion becomes soft and turns pink. Add tomatoes and saute till the water reduces. Grind this mixture into a paste. Do not add water.

Now for tempering take another pan and add oil. To this add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add curry leaves and sauté it for a few secs. Add this mixture to the chutney and give it a mix. Serve with dosa or idlis.

My Notes

ü The amount of salt and spices can be varied according to your taste and eating habits. This measurement works well for me and my family.

ü As tomatoes are being added you might not need any water while grinding.
